Meet Cassidy!

Cassidy

Meet Cassidy. Her laughter and smile are contagious. She is a fun-loving child. She was diagnosed with Autism at two years old and is non-verbal. Cassidy is constantly on the move, looking for hugs, kisses, or racing up and down the hallway. Crowds, loud noises and routine changes induce anxiety with Cassidy. She will plug her ears, lick her lips, and vocalizing loudly. Cassidy likes to spend her time watching shows on her IPad, some over and over again until the power runs out. The benefits of a service dog would be to promote verbal communication & help Cassidy build relationship skills that she lacks. She will be able to pet & give it hugs to her service dog, this would help ease her anxiety. She would know that the service dog is with her at all times and take comfort in its presence.

Our goal is to have Cassidy reach her fullest potential and providing her with a service dog will help her gain confidence, independence, emotional support, and a friend.

Meet Jack!

Jack

Jack is an energetic four year old with an infectious laugh. He loves to run, jump, climb and dance. Jack had  a traumatic brain injury at the early age of 16 months which resulted in a subdural hemorrhage. This affected his cognitive abilities and caused numerous impairments. He was diagnosed with Autism in 2013 as well as having a severe speech disorder, behavior disorder and sensory processing disorders.
Jack is non-verbal and does not understand the concept of danger or safety. Jack has remarkable fine motor skills-due to that he is able to unlock every door, window and car seat ( we have gone through 12 car seats and harnesses so far). Keeping Jack safe has been an ongoing challenge-We are constantly changing the bolts, doors, safety locks; all which are guaranteed to keep him safe but fail to do so.  We just commissioned an amazing woman in Montana who is building a custom made barn door ( 50 inches high and 4 inches thick) to put across our kitchen doorway to help deter Jack from escaping. Jack cannot go out in public due to his inability to understand danger. He has almost been hit by cars and trucks because he bolts into the street or parking lot. Trying to drive with Jack is a disaster-each time he is able to escape his car seat and depending on his mood, he kicks glass windows, throws items and climbs over seats. Unfortunately- we spend the majority of our time in the car taking Jack to numerous therapies, doctors and hospitals.
As a family, we were at a loss as to how to keep Jack safe and able to expand his experiences when we were introduced to W.A.G.S. 4 Kids. They specialize in training dogs to help children like Jack that have autism or special needs and give them opportunities to do things they would not otherwise have the physical or cognitive capacity to accomplish.  Jack’s future dog will be trained to keep Jack safe by keeping him in his car seat,  bedroom at night, calm him down during meltdowns and improve speech. More so allow Jack to visit places like the library, park, zoo and maybe even meet his extended family .  We know Jack’s dog will forever change his quality of life.  Thank you for reading our story and for your consideration.
